Project Plans

"Light for better Life" is our most recend planned project which aims to provide a total of 50 Solar Panels to the villagers of Chuga village in Mugu district.
Being an independent organization, the only source of income for this project are our supporters and well wishers, who also care for the well-being of the general people.

Details of the Program area:
Location: Pina 04, Chuga, Mugu
Mugu is one of the most remote and undeveloped districts of mid-western Nepal. Most of Mugu is ragged lands, craggy hills and mountains. A hint of modern development can be seen in Gamagadhi: the district headquarters which was recently touched by the only road in the district. Southern Mugu is relatively green and has arable soil, but like most parts of the Mugu, nothing grows in the Himalayas. Known for Rara Lake -the largest lake of the country- most of Mugu has abundant natural beauties. However, the human socio-economic condition of this district is the worst among others. Many villages lack health care centers and schools. Sick people being carried in dokos are a common sight in villages. Little children walk hours to reach school. And the household spend all day in the field, carrying out all of the work manually even though the world has leapt bounds in agricultural technology.
The targeted area of our project is Pina-04, Chuga, which takes about four hours to reach by foot from Gamgadhi. There are about 500 people in this village dominated by Dalits: a marginalized community due to the so-called category of low-castes. People in this area do not have the energy or resources for high expectations and goals in their life. They are simply struggling to make their ends meet. They do not have any income sources and from an early age young children are expected by their families to help in domestic works. As an alternative, youth are compelled to do odd jobs in India. This trend has left villages with only the elderly and children.

Potential impacts:
Poverty is at its critical level in Mugu. People do not expect big things in life other than having to sustain their living. Students do not have time to study at home as their nearest school is almost two hours walk. They must leave home early and return home late in the evening. Our research team found that they use pine logs and sticks to make fire for night work and study. Often fire mishaps occur. Children cannot be too careful with fire. Burning firewood for all these purposes creates health problems like asthma, bronchitis, cancer and so on. Fire has taken lives of many livestock as well. If we can help Chuga to use solar powered lighting in the evening, children can study without being exposed to fire hazards; people will have better prevention against lung diseases; and the households will be much safer from being fire burnt.
We, Youth for Better Nepal, have done critical researches on this area and conclude that this area needs opportunities for its development. As young people, we are gathered to uplift their lifestyle by providing solar cells to each family. Indirectly, this project aims to produce healthy and educated people in near future. Our non-profit motives are to uplift awareness, literacy and to wipe out poverty in the long run.

Impact Analysis:

Youth for Better Nepal plans to request outside evaluators with sound knowledge of the inadequacy and the needs of the local people for the evaluation of the project after its establishment. They will assess whether the team has achieved its goal to identify and draw attention to the problems and will also make recommendations. The sponsors will be kept informed about the project through a copy of annual report.
